Blogging Sucks
One of my first posts on Misanthropy Today was about blogging.
Here is an excerpt:
So i’ve decided to start blogging because I guess I don’t have much to do. If you’re reading this, you probably don’t either, so we’re both sort of caught in that same net.
People always say “so and so needs to get a life”, usually people who say that need to get a life too. Rest assured, should I ever get a life I will drop this blog like a hot potato.
Well if you like reading this site I haven’t gotten a life yet so i’m not going to drop it like a hot potato just yet.
That said, i’ve gone back into the archive and deleted a lot of posts that I thought were off-topic (not about Misanthropy), too topical (news, TV, etc) or otherwise just not that great.
As a blogger i’ve gone back and forth between wanting to only write good stuff and wanting to write a lot of stuff. I see I have a lot of returning visitors who just drop in and see if i’ve made any new posts.
I’ve also made some .htaccess changes and 301 redirects to remove that ugly Month, Day, Year datet thing from the URL.
So instead of misanthropytoday.com/5/23/08/something-that-sucks they are simply misanthropytoday.com/something-that-sucks.
If you want instructions on how to do that let me know and i’ll drop it in the comments.
Suprisingingly Google has updated all of my indexed pages and I’ve only seen a small drop in Google search traffic as a result.
For an hour or two I tested out randomizing the front page so that new visitors would see a mix of new and old posts, but it felt wrong and I went back to chronological order. I might put a random post box on top or something.
What sucks the most about blogging is finding stuff to write about. I picked a really narrow topic and I feel like putting personal blog posts on here seems dumb and not helpful to those looking for Misanthropy, so i’ve deleted most of those too.
A site called SucklessBlogs recently wrote about Misanthropy Today.
Go check that site out, its a good place to find good blogs.
Also here’s some blogs that I like and some that I don’t like:
Blogs I Like
Psychotic Letters From Men / Why Women Hate Men
The Shape Of Days (Now Defunct, book deal or something)
eFukt (NSFW)
Blogs I Don’t Like That Much
(mostly because they are pretending to be real life stuff but all seem fake)
Overheard In New York
F My Life
FailBlog
Not Always Right
If you know of any good blogs that you think i’d like please comment them, it’s hard to find good blogs.

I guess you could check out my blog, NoTimeForRecess.com, if you think it sucks, then I completely agree.

Nice stuff. Glad you didn’t drop it like a hot potato or even a semi-warm potato.

Hmm. I suppose it is a good thing for me not to be on the good OR the bad list. Neutrality is good, ask Switzerland.

Hello there, I liked this post of yours. And the review by Suckless Blogs is so good. And I don’t think people start a blog only because they don’t have a life. Blogs started as dairies of people but now, they are much more. Companies have blogs, famous websites have blogs, organisations have blogs. And blogs can look like a website and function like a website.
I’ve 2 blogs – England Cricket Blog (www.jimmymycrushie.me) and jimmymycrushie (jimmymycrushieinfo.blogspot.com).
Now, I think the blog jimmymycrushie will be interesting and informative for many many people and as the name suggests, England Cricket Blog is unlikely to interest people who are not at all interested in cricket. There are wallpapers and other good pictures of cricketers which women might like though. I had only one blog. When I started it, I kept posting about different things but slowly it became more of English Cricket Blog and the visitors who like cricket, would have obviously been disappointed at seeing non-cricket posts. I started a blog in Jan ’09, almost accidently and I didn’t know what I was gonna do with it. But I got visitors, my writing improved. In fact, it was already good, I just didn’t know about it. In these 1 and a half years, I posted about 50 posts about England Cricket and about 8 other posts. I decided to buy a domain earlier this month. I also decided to separate the blogs. My bro was very critical of keeping 2 blogs so he adviced me to delete the non-cricket posts and I did. I bought a domain, changed the theme, url. Later, I realised that people search in google about my deleted posts or visit my site looking for those and then, writers don’t like just deleting their articles, do they? So, I decided to create a new blog and didn’t tell bro about it. He found out about it after some days but thankfully, forgot. I don’t know how much I’ll be posting on jimmymycrushie because I have to get more exposure for England Cricket Blog.
