I’m not advocating sex with a 12, 13 or, for the sake of this argument, even 17 year old, I’m just pointing out a problem with your logic.

The same logical fallacy can be offered up for the drinking at 18 argument. How is one decision more important than another? Whose job is it to decide? Old people that grew up in different times with different experiences? Mainstream America that changes on a daily basis? The beauty of this country is that we are able to have this discussion and it doesn’t lead to the guy being stoned to death by an angry mob or the 14 year old girl being killed by her uncles because some other sicko really did take advantage of her. The 14 year old girl turns out to be a 24 year old actress and the man gets embarrassed on national TV. Hooray for the USA!!!

Um, maybe you haven’t thought this through. The fact that in just about every high school in this country there exists a social caste system. The beautiful, outgoing, wealthy and accepted kids are popularized, adored like mini-celebrities and, from outside looking in, “have all the fun.” I think it is the 13, 14, 15 and 16 year old girls and boys who may be loaners or just lonely, being part of the “out-crowd,” who eventually fall victim to sexual crimes against minors. There is a REASON they are called MINORS and it is not just because they are Typically not physically developed enough for the 18 crowd to want to bang. It is because they are TOO YOUNG TOO DECIDE for themselves who they should be having sex with. It is also because they are vulnerable, impressionable and usually always seeking someone to confide in, trust and establish a good relationship with. They are prime victims for manipulation and coercion. A man who is even just 22 has NO business screwing a 17 year old, bottom line. If a man feels the need to be a part of her life then he should act like a big brother and point her in the direction of a community center or somewhere where that young girl should be spending her time to grow and learn to be a responsible, discerning young adult woman… which she will NOT do while lying in bed with him and the rest of the adult men that find her on the internet.

Ryan, I am so sad that you are right, humans can be terrible, and I guess they never will stop being terrible. It makes me sad for our world.

Whats most fucked up is that fact that youth is SO valued in our society that the kinds of bodies considered sexy now are becoming more like that of a twelve year old girl instead of an 18 year old. It that way, you are right in that this is a social problem.
