Dont Talk to the Police by Professor James Duane
Be warned, this video is 27 friggin minutes.
James Duane explains why innocent people should never talk to the police. For the most part (for very large crimes) it’s true, however for smaller crimes it may be better to speak with them rather than to pull the whole “i want my lawyer” bullshit, which will probably make them arrest you when normally they would not.
This James Duane looks familiar somehow.
Anyhow, great video. Lots of good points and well argued.
I miss philosophy and law classes.

You know what, I watched the video and didn’t read the part about “this guy looks familiar”.
Odd. I thought the same thing when I first started watching the video.

From time to time and whenever you get a writers block or you find you have something more pressing to do I read your old stuff. I have stopped myself from reading everything because I don’t want to get to the point where I have nothing to do here.
I’ve had a few run-ins with the law, nothing serious but annoying to say the least. Studying the law I had the edge over most of them. The problem with police and practical authority is that it is usually wielded by a complete idiot. As this video points out anything you say will be used against you and not in your defense. I mean honestly all the law is, in its purest form is a dictated/ accepted social order backed up by a threat. In the most cases it is justified as the order is for the greater good of all those involved. When are the police justified to enforce the law?
The police are usually bullies and or idiots who are not fit or educated to uphold the law. Muscle without brains. 90% of officers take a guilty until proven innocent attitude combined with a somewhat selective memory all of this is dangerous to anyone who deals with them. I whole-heartedly agree with this man and I only talk to police in order to trump them, usually when I know the law better than they do. I troll the police. I and you pay for their services and if they are going to try to convict you it is only right that you push their lack of knowledge in their faces. For example if a traffic stop sign has no sticker on the back of it and the police pull you over, trying to give you a ticket you can have it overturned in court. They have no right to give you a ticket if the sign doesn’t have that sticker on the back of it. Knowledge trumps practical authority which basically fucks the officer in the ass. You refuse the ticket and he uses excessive force you’ve got him in court. You could have the officer convicted. It is amazing how true the statement ‘anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law’ is. If you lack the specialist knowledge it is usually better to keep your mouth shut. Your best weapon against the law is knowing the law better than the police do. For example know the laws on stop and search and if the officer violates these the results of his search come up null and void. I for example know one guy arrested for a spate of burglaries who managed to get away with all of them because he goaded the officer into punching him, this event as it transpired was caught on camera in the back of the police van and this evidence was used to convict the officer and the person in question got away with every crime he had committed. Other than not talking to the police at all your best weapon is a keen observation of the officers conduct and a knowledge of the law.
