You're such a liberal. This reminds me of that time you told me about that guy on death row who killed himself an hour before he was about to get the chair.

I was like "So did they give him the chair?"

You were like "He was dead already"

And I was like "So what, he was sentenced to the chair, he should've gotten the chair"

And you were like "But he was dead already, why give him the chair too?"

And I was like "you liberal".

Very similar to that time.

And yet, what are we doing to help low income, uneducated young American men? Besides enlisting them in the army?

I think you're missing the point Jeremy. The need to free Iraqis from a dangerous dictator (to be clear: dangerous to them via his actions with other nations, not necessarily directly)and instill some self-determination and freedom, to use a word that somehow tires you, is apart of a larger goal in the region and in the Muslim world.

Sure it's not completely altruistic that we'd like to help low income, uneducated young Arab men not take on radical views and dead end jobs (insurgent, suicide bomber) and instead build a new, free country in a region that is becoming increasingly stone age ideologically.

This, of course, isn't cute and doesn't fit on a bumper sticker (which you say you dislike, but seem to be looking for) but is the motive behind building a new Iraq.

As naive is it is to believe that the war is only about oil or personal glory, it's equally naive to think that the war hinges entirely upon some altruistic desire to liberate a foreign populace, regardless of the cost.

If this were at all true, the war would be supported by the majority of US citizens, and perhaps even the majority of the world. Sadly, this is not the case.

I think it's high time that both sides of this political conflict hang up the cute slogans and tired catch phrases. No one's mind is going to be changed without honest communication, something that both the pro-war and the anti-war activists seem to be unable to achieve with one another.
