To be a decent person one must overcome some great hardship.

I suppose that it also shows us that the easy way is never the best way.

I suppose I should go to bed...

Job had such patience, I wonder what that's like?
Honestly I can't believe that an omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent god would do such a thing, then again I can't believe in god period. I mean you make a bet knowing the outcome, it isn't really a bet now is it?
Besides why would god need to do that? Why would he do such a thing to a faithful follower? To me this means there is no distinction between God and Satan, are they one of the same? Is Satan just God drunk? Are they poker buddies or something?
I believe that God is an insurance policy for people, especially nowadays.
Another thing that pisses me off is that if God is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent and he stands by and watches suffering, allowing evil, disaster, so on and so forth is his omnipotence, omnipresence and omniscience not completely wasted?
I believe in modern times the teachings have lost their relevance, we have held the values in the bible to close for far to long, to the point that they have become worn out. Time devours all things. To keep these teaching relevant I believe that it is time for them to be re-written and put into context for modern man. Some lessons are timeless but take them out of context and they have no value at all to anybody.
Rant out of the way.

AGE: 20
JOB TITLE: N/A
INCOME: 1-2K
HAPPINESS QUOTIENT: 8
it was originally around 5 but it has shot up with new prospects in the past year. The most depressing thing for me to ever have to deal with was that I simply couldn't afford med school. That killed me inside, caused me to hate money and people even more than I already did but it also taught me that I can acquire the knowledge anyway and that money is not essential to happiness. I suppose that freedom is what makes me happy. I would not have learned that if not for that whole depressing phase. I wouldn't be where I am if I didn't learn that. I've also learned that it isn't too late to do something with myself. I do not have exactly what I want, however, I have exactly what I need.

On your second point about being job...
Ugly women: Yes if there is a god he is punishing you or is he showing you that you and our species as a whole are extremely shallow. I cannot scold you or anyone for this as I am as guilty as anyone. This leads me to ask whether you mean ugly as in looks or personality?
Having to get a job to escape ugly women ultimately benefits you and therefore cannot be a punishment. It will increase your finances and help you find a more aesthetically pleasing mate. If anything it is just a testament to our inherent shallowness.
All women become ugly in looks or attitude, this is beautiful because it shows us that our shallowness is wrong, especially in regard to physical form. As time marches on physical beauty withers therefore time serves as a lesson to us all that being shallow is pointless. Becoming ugly in attitude is usually ones own fault. If a woman becomes ugly in attitude it is usually because she has been given all she wants without any work involved. Or she's just a bitch in which case you've fucked up severely. I am not job, I envy the patience of this man, even if I believe him and his tale to be entirely fictional. Like all things written in the bible his story serves as a lesson no matter which angle you view from. For me personally it makes me take a look at humanity and the human condition, the ways in which we behave and act, it makes me question my own actions and think to act better. I suppose in this case the story has served some purpose.
I find that the best women are the ones who are average to good looking, even beautiful. One of the best traits to have in a woman is that she has overcome some emotional trauma in her life, this allows her to have a more objective view of the world and makes her realize what is important. Because she has learned this lesson early on and has continued on with her life she is much less likely to be ugly in her attitude towards the world. She knows what really matters, therefore she makes a better and more reliable long term partner. If you've helped her overcome said trauma it also makes her a more loyal partner without being too reliant on you for answers. The perfect partner is the damaged one.

A - 20
L - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (population >1million)
Job - Student/Musician/EMT
Salary - <30 000

after hearing this bland song, I strongly suggest that you listen to:
1.)Whiskey and Wine by Matt Costa
2.)Rodney Dangerfield's stand up act
3.)She's Only Happy in the Sun by Ben Harper

now that that's that, I am Job (accordingly, as you have appropriately aforementioned, and I alliterate/appropriate anecdotally). I get fucked around in life, as does eveyone.

a medical term, symptomatic bradycardia/tachycardia/ any condition implies that symptoms such as headache, fever, malaise are resultant from the underlying condition.
still with me?
cool. I just felt like throwing that out there and sounding smart.

anyways, back to Job.

So this guy is tested by God. first of all, let's stop thinking about God as Santa Claus. He is, by nature and virtue, completely powerful and has no need of us nor our contributions (See JOB when he [or Elihu, can't recall] says "look at the sky. if a man is good, how does that effect god? if he is evil, how does it effect god? no, it only effects a man such as himself."
wow, shit me that's brilliant.
so god doesn't need us.)

go figure.

So what is his role as it pertains to us?
according to the torah, he is THE morally excellent creator of us all, with super high standards and the sole power to judge right and wrong. he also sees himself (rightfully so) as the King (a concept foreign and malignant to us since the advent of "democracy"). he runs a reward system for helping the poor ("lending to god" - see proverbs), looking out for one another (see Deuteronomy about building walls around your roofs and the most important commandments), and honoring the King. the thing that PISSES HIM OFF the most is people dissing the king (see Genesis and what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah, or what he wanted done to the amalekites)...
so if he wants to test his subjects for loyalty and show off in front of his enemy, I would assume that this would be HIS prerogative (ass = you me).
accordingly so, kings have done this for millenia in the form of "champions" and "heroes" and more or less recently, "olympians". the difference in this form and god's is between physical and moral competitions.
so, God just whips around his subjects?
only to show their inside parts off and piss off his enemies.
AND, if I remember correctly, Job got back twice as much as he had before.

from a philosophical standpoint, taking the moral highroad and playing the devil's advocate's antagonist,
