The Crusaders pushed Islam and Islam fought back. In fact very well, because they managed to conquer Eastern Europe. It's the ignorance and the stubborness of the people (men in particular) and the culture that brings in these outrageous things like gang raping a girl as punishment for her brother's crime or honor killings for talking to a guy.
