The Sopranos, Episode 85 “The Blue Comet”

This season of the Sopranos just started to get good last night, and there’s only one episode left.

So first off Sil goes to this minor character’s house and kills him with a chain around his neck, which always seems like a gimmick since these guys all have guns and this isn’t necessary. In the name of variety they try to show you different ways the mob takes people out of circulation. A Curio Cabinet was also destroyed here.

So first goes this minor character who I don’t even know who he is and for good measure, they destroy a lovely cabinet.

Then this zip goes to Phil’s booty call’s house and shoots this guy who looks old and distinguished like Phil, but its not Phil, its Phil’s FB’s Ukrainian dad! Then she comes down the stairs screaming and running towards warm metal, so he puts a few through her sweater too. Note To Others: Run in opposite direction of gunfire.

Bobby is at a nerdy hobby shop buying trains and these guys come in and blow him away all over the store. Like around 15 rounds.
In TV and Film, overweight people require more lead than slender people. If a 150lb man requires 3 bullets, then a 300lb man requires 9-12. If you’re doing math at home, its about 2-3 additional bullets for each 40lbs over 150lbs. I’d require 6 or 7 bullets.
In addition to Bobby buying the farm, some nice collectible trains and figurines are destroyed too. Because of this gross disregard for collectibles, you start to get the feeling that David Chase owes an antique dealer some money or something.

Ok, then these greaseballs from Phil’s family show up at the Bing and try to crash into Sil and that hawkish looking guy in Sil’s Lincoln. Chase Films doesn’t spare the Lincoln any rough treatment. Sil is reaching for a .32 or .25 pistol and catches a few in the sides. Then the old guy starts blasting and he clips one of the bad guys. Then they shoot up Sil some more and the old guy runs to this nearby creek but you don’t see where he goes after that. It’s assumed he built a fort down there like I did at the creek near my boyhood house.
Before hitting the road, the bad guys are able to knock a guy off his motorcycle rather comically. But this isn’t enough for David Chase: two separate cars followed and one of them nailed the bike and the other ran over the biker. The embarrassment!
Then Tony drives his Cadillac Escalade into the driveway really fast and hands a sawed off to a non-speaking character sitting, as luck would have it, shotgun.

(above photo of Carmela not giving a shit)
Tony then goes inside and Carm and her frumpy friend are doing their best General Foods International Coffee commercial really working themselves into a froth over their European vacation pictures. What a sad parade. Ok so then Tony comes in and tells Carmela that Bobby is dirt napping and to get the hell out of the house and lay low. Then he goes upstairs and tells AJ the same thing and to pack a bag. AJ rolls his eyes through another scene and is starts to tell Tony how this won’t help his depression much. Tony then goes Bakersfield Chimp on his ass and knocks AJ’s Xbox 360 asunder in the process, probably damaging his gaming console permanently.
Then Tony and some other guys go to this shabby looking house and we fade to black with Tony falling asleep with a gun on his chest, presumably, so he will wake up this morning on the last episode and have himself a gun. David Chase, you clever mofo.

My dad gets kinda annoyed when I fall asleep before the Sopranos comes on but I usually catch it one of the four or five times he rewatches it one tivo during the following week. Now I can show him this hilarious post and be off the hook. Off the hook as in the old-school, no longer in trouble, meaning, not in the way stupid use it.

The scene with the Ukranians really annoyed me. First off, if you’re going to take out a major head of a family, wouldn’t you use a little dilligence and research first. I think the mob is overrated. I mean Sammy “the bull” Gravano was ratted out the entire Gotti family and was in Scottsdale peddling E like it was no big deal to ASU co-eds and never got knocked off. Speaking of which, I really want to kick the shit out of the Gotti kids.

Sad thing is, Christopher would have been the most reliable and competent guy to have in Tony’s corner at this point. Now the vultures circle.

The Hawkish looking guy driving Silvio’s car was Patsy Parisi – his son’s dating Meadow… pay attention.
And the curio cabinet had it coming, it had a definite additude.

Sorry, should have been ‘attitude’ – damn typos.

The Ukranian wasn’t Phil’s GF and her Dad. Where did you come up with that? Thought they were random people, who made a serious f’iing mistake.
Yes, important that Patsy was the one who got away. Meadow & Patrick are pretty much engaged at this point. Future FIL stands to move up a few spaces to management after all the vacancies.
RE: Piano wire killing- I wondered the same thing. I think it was deliberate. It was sending a message- “I’m cutting you off”. I’m sure he would have rather shot the guy. Easier, cleaner, no broken glass, etc.
The shabby house is Junior Sopranos place, isn’t it?
So, was your fort for boys only or what?

*#&*$%&$. RE: Random people: Meaning: the 2 hired guys made the serious f’ing mistake, not the Ukranians who were just hangin’ out at home.

I don’t think it was Junior’s place… different kitchen and I don’t remember that dining room… Plus, who’s been using it? Weren’t there beer bottles and guy stuff lying around? I don’t think it matters that much anyway.
My guess is that he doesn’t get killed or flip… I think they get Phil, things look like they’re about to quiet down, and he gets pinched.

THAT would depress me, even more so than Tony being 6 feet under. (Gratuitous HBO reference intended).
They have made far too many references about money lately. Tony is having an issue with it. Three major instances come to mind:
1) 200K he borrowed and had to make payments on
2) Complaining constantly about hospital bills, etc. to Melfi
3) References to paying for Meadow’s graduate school
Not to mention Christopher’s death and loosing his 2 top guys.
I don’t think it’s just an “afterthought”. The money issue is key to the plot.
If I had to write it, I’d have Tony fake his own death and disappear with the money he does have. Carmella collects a major life insurance policy, she’s happy.
Anthony Jr. takes over the biz.
In a perfect world, of course.

Paulie is the inside man who will sell Tony down the river. Dr. Melfi’s gams now look almost Barry Sanderesque. AJ’s chinstrap is amazing and I want to bring some canolis to work tomorrow.

A friend of mine at HBO said they were still editing the final episode as recently as a week ago. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna do something rather dumb or predictable or dumbly unpredictable (i.e. god in the box). I know this sounds like I hate the show but I just think they’ll muck it up somehow.
Tie up the loose ends. Make AJ join in on the war, make Meadow move to Calfornia and get married to me, have dr melfi get hit by a bus, etc.
I’d be willing to bet theres gonna be a lot of cameos from Sopranos in the past on the final episode.

also: I dont think its Juniors house. That’d be a pretty dumb place to lay low anyhow.
Does anyone know if the final episode will be 1 hour or will it be like 2 hours? It should be 2 hours I think.

Okay, okay, I thought Junior’s house would be stupid too, but it looked rather familiar. Why is he even staying in Jersey? If people were out to kill me I’d go to- well- not there?
RE: Melfi- WTF? She’s a cow. The chemistry between them used to be worth watching- now she’s reminiscent of Tony’s mother. Fat & mentally screwing with him. Off with her head!
As for still editing, I thought all of the episodes were shot and completed over a year ago??
