In An effort to make Misanthropy Today a more funny blog I randomized the homepage since most of my new articles are pretty craptastic. Turns out everyone hated it. Ok have it your way. It's back to normal now.

Twitter On TV

By Dan Yanofsky
I was watching Rick Sanchez on CNN newsroom this morning.

He was doing a story on Castro and the political future of Cuba. He had an expert come on the show, some guy named Tad, who had written an entire book about Castro and what Cuba would be like without him. Tad spoke for a few minutes about geopolitics in Cuba, which went straight over Sanchez’s head. Sanchez wanted to dumb down the conversation a bit (or a lot) for his audience, so he decided to check for his fans’ “tweets.” So he cuts off an expert on the subject, someone with vast knowledge of Cuba, so that he can tell us what Bob from Kansas thinks.

Is this a joke?

How can we learn anything from watching the news if they would rather show this assholes half-baked opinion on the subject rather than consulting an actual fucking author who has the critical thinking ability to write more than 140 characters on any given issue? I was deprived of two more minutes of listening to someone who has some idea of what he’s talking about so that Sanchez could read through several tweets from people on the same level intellectually as most of the morons who are watching CNN at 11 in the morning. It seems that Rick Sanchez viewers want to be spoon-fed some bullshit rhetoric from their people who reiterate their own viewpoints rather than actually learning something new.

Having intelligent people on TV to discuss important issues is informative but sometimes boring. Showing the opinions of their own viewers is mind-numbingly stupid and not informative, but can be entertaining. I think CNN has shown us what is important to them, entertainment over information.

Just another example of the media ignoring their duty to serve the public interest. I don’t even find these tweets to be entertaining in the same way that youtube comments can be entertaining. When you look at the comments under youtube videos you at least have a chance of coming across comments that are markedly racist, hateful, retarded, or hilarious in some other way. But no, CNN only shows tweets void of hate speech, grammatical errors, and lulz.

Look at the ticker below. I swear this isn’t photoshopped.
