Update, Random, Misanthropy

My company can’t really afford my salary (we’re venture funded; the venture funding market is bad) and I have some good consulting gigs currently so i’m gonna take it easier and work on my own projects for awhile.

I’m  also going to make a concerted effort to spend more time on my own personal projects.

I know this sounds like some lame aplogia for getting laid off but really it’s something I’m very happy about— I brought up the idea of me leaving about a month ago:  A full time web exec  job, consulting and all the other crap I have going on is too much for one person.

So it’s a huge weight lifted off my shoulders and something i’ve been wanting to do, maybe you could tell I was sort of phoning it in lately.

Here’s a few areas I want to focus on:

Art

I want to start painting more pictures. I’m thinking one per week. I don’t think i’m an artist and I think everyone should casually create art for their own self without having to wear a beret or drive a volvo automobile.

Also I want to take more photos and screw around with Photoshop and Fireworks and such.

I know this sounds crazy but I bought a Macbook. It’s just for research and to mess around on, don’t worry I’m not gonna fag out in some Starbucks with the titanium glistening in the track lighting, chomping on some scone and drinking a lattes, rubbernecking every vaguely attractive broad that walks in. Well, let’s hope owning a Mac doesn’t make you do that.

Websites

Check out this stock photo when you type “Website” into google images. You have the programmer on the right, the designer in the middle and that uptight project manager on the left, bitchily sipping coffee..

I have a lot of websites I mess around with.

I recently made a deal to work on a project with the guy from Psychotic Letters From Men, and we’re going to merge all of his content and make a new site devoted to Psychotic Letters in general– men or women.

I think it’ll make a great coffee table book someday.

I’ve also revamped my crappy viral video site called VideoViral.net. I’m really lousy at programming and design (and adding content) so if you’d like to help me i’d love it and we could probably set up a deal where if you do one of those things for me  i’ll use my hand on you once a week or something.

In addition I have about 15 other websites that I want to update at least once per day.

Random

I’ve added a Random button to the top nav.

Click that and you’re whisked away to some random page on this website. You probably think you’ve read them all but I assure you that you haven’t.

Consulting

Like I said, I’ll be focusing more on consulting.

I train companies and build systems  to do interactive marketing, data analysis, branding, SEO/SEM, media buying, networking, social media, blogging, business development, process management, etc etc.

I’ve had some pretty good success with this stuff in my career. Feel free to send me referrals and i’ll give you some money for it.

I’m also going to incorporate my consulting business into an Inc (for Tax and AMEX business card reasons) and i’m trying to pick a name, here are the two choices:

Webskum (.com)

Angeles Marketing (.com)

The first name is the name of the site I bought when I decided I was going to take over the internet one crappy site at a time. I think this name would look badass on a black Amex card.

The second is a more clean sounding name that I think will have better localized SEO value. Feel free to tell me which one you like better.

Misanthropy Today

I want to update Misanthropy Today more and spend more time meditating on things that suck and are terrible and must be called out in a public forum. I really started this site as a joke and i’m pretty happy that up to 5,000 people stop by every day to read it.

Again, please contribute anything you have. I guarantee I have 10 things in the can that i’m about to publish that are way stupider than anything you have to contribute.

If it’s somewhat funny, new, snarky, whatever send it in.
