Why Does Every Black Guy In Front Of Me At 7-11 Buy A Black And Mild?

Seriously every time I’m at 7-11 or any convenience store and there’s a younger black dude in front of me, without fail he always buys a black and mild cigar. (20% of the time he will buy a swisher sweet cigar)
What the hell is up with this?
I know this sounds stereotypical but christ, i’ve seen this 1,000 times so it’s not exactly an isolated incident.
I called my college friend and social worker Bob Tapia to weigh in on this.
“One time i was behind a black guy at 7-11 and i said ‘And a black & mild’ right before he did, like as a joke. He was stunned. He actually bought me one because I guessed that he was going to buy one”, Bob explains.
I suggested to Bob that instead of only buying one, these guys should buy a 4 pack, since judging from experience, i’m pretty sure they’ll need them. Also i’ve seen a few confrontations where the customer accused the storekeeper of overcharging for B&Ms.
“True, but i think buying a black & mild is sort of an occasion in itself.
Part of the ritual. I’ve been told it’s like a friday night thing: to cap off the week.”
Bob went on, “Also, it may be for guys who can’t smoke marijuana (due to a job or some kind of drug testing) anymore but want a chemical break nonetheless”
Are Black And Milds Used To Smoke Marijuana?
“Contrary to popular belief, b&ms aren’t used to roll blunts. They’re smoked as is; enjoyed as if a montecristo. Phillies are for making blunts, swishers too.”
“Almost Forgot”
“My question is who owns Black and Mild and is it publicly traded” Bob joked.
“And it’s always like it just occurred to them to buy one. Like, almost forgot.”
I did some research into this and of course, Philip Morris has gotten their hands on Black And Mild and according to Wikipedia, plan to market it aggressively.
Black and Mild is a pipe tobacco cigar brand, produced by John Middleton, Inc., a tobacco company in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. As of November 2007, Philip Morris with the help of Darryl “Tony” Jackson bought out John Middleton, Inc.[1] This new takeover is expected to result in an increase in sales of Black and Mild brand cigarillos, most likely through greater marketing efforts.
Black and Milds are filled with pipe tobacco. They can come with a plastic or wood tip, filter tip, untipped, or in a shorter version called a Fast Break, which is about half of the size of a regular Black and Mild. They are shaped like a cigarillo. According to the United States Government Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, they are the preferred cigar of young African Americans at 56%.[2] The Black and Mild five pack are the top selling cigar package in the U.S., as of September 2004 according to ACNielsen.[3]
Middleton Cigars who produce Black and Mild also provide numerous different flavors, including Black and Mild Mild,Black And Mild Original,Black and Mild Fastbreak Black and Mild Apple, Black and Mild Wine, Black and Mild FT Filter Tip, Gold and Mild,Black and mild cherry, Black and Mild Cherry-Vanilla, and the recently introduced Black and Mild Cream, which is a replacement of the older, Dutch-style, Black and Mild Vanilla.
Black and Mild brand cigars are sometimes used as blunts. It is also a common practice to remove the tobacco, take out the inner wrapper (sometimes termed “cancer paper”), and put the tobacco back in. Once this has been done, the Black & Mild is said to have been “champed,” “freaked,” “hyped,” or “migged.”
Although this wikipedia entry says that they are used to smoke blunts i’m going to defer to Bob the social worker on this one.
Here’s a documentary I found about the black and mild phenomenon:
