Why Does The President Have To Live & Work At The White House?

Thursday, 29 Jan 2009

I was just reading this article and looking at pictures of George W Bush and many of them had the White House in them.

I started thinking about why the President of the United States doesn’t have like a White House and then a seperate White Office?

It’s never seemed odd before that the President essentially never leaves that place—- but then just now it did.

We don’t make baseball players sleep at the ballpark after games or Chefs sleep in the kitchen after the restaurant is closed (although most do because they’re usually drunks).

Why does the President have to sleep at his office?

Are other countries like this?

If I become President i’m going to demand that my house is where I relax and my office is where I work.

I’ll go on some loud rant about how I work hard and deserve to relax. Then i’ll turn the “Oval Room” (formerly the Oval Office) in the White House into an Arcade with air hockey, 20 beers on tap, large television screens and full sized video games and those lights that flash disco rainbows all over the walls that look cool when you’re stoned and let people know “The Party’s Here”.

Where will your Presidential office be then, President Fox?

Well I have a few ideas.

You know the government does have a little office space in the DC area. I’ve been looking into the Capitol Building.

Current structure:

Proposed Structure:

It even looks more even and stuff that way too.

Plus my office will be close to those crooks on Capitol hill so I can keep an eye on them for you guys.

  1. Dude. Good point. I actually read somewhere that people work better and happier when they leave their homes to work. That way you get a good work/life balance going. In other countries they don’t do this…well I’m sure they do in SOME of them, but not most of them.

  2. I’m all in favour of beer in the oval office… except that the Capitol Hill building that that picture is of doesn’t have an oval office.

    You mean THIS White House?

  3. Kaile. Yeah that white house. I was talking about letting me use that for me and my family to live in and i’ll add another pointy part to the capitol building. Then I can remodel the oval office in the manner described.

Are you on my side here or what?

  4. Danny. Thanks for the kind words, and I think you’re right about that work/life balance. What a bunch of cheapskates we are that we’re like “ok here’s a house to live and work in, live/work spaces are very popular in urban areas, very popular– make it work”

  5. As someone who’s been in a three hour traffic jam because W had to go to the Kennedy Center and sleep through a concert, I can tell you I fully support that guy not having a daily commute.

  6. id be all for living and working as long as i didnt have to dress nicely

It would be awesome to send the invasion while still smelling like beer from the night before…too bad he has to wash up and mess with that pin on his jacket
